If “The Ice Cream Shop” posts on their website “The Ice Cream Shop of Kansas City announces three new flavors of ice cream added to our menu; chocolate, vanilla and strawberry”, search engines will find this content and the keywords within (ice cream, Kansas City, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, The Ice Cream Shop etc.) and match its relevancy to people searching for ice cream in Kansas City, or searches for “The Ice Cream Shop” etc. The longer content remains static, the more it is considered to not be relevant to current searches. As this happens, the ranking is lowered - the longer it is static, the lower the rank becomes.

Traffic

Traffic also plays a part in the search engine ranking and goes hand-in-hand with new content. Search engines take notice of where traffic is going. As you post new content, the search engines match the keywords within your content to searches being performed and visitors click on links to your website from the search results. This confirms to the search engine that it has done well in matching internet searches to the desired destinations. The longer a person remains on your website as well as visits additional pages on your website, the more certain the search engine becomes it has sent the person to the correct destination. This knowledge further raises your websites search engine ranking.
